Hot on the heels of the Northern Model Show the club attended White Rose Figureworld the following weekend. This was a new show on the circuit and was organised by the White Rose Military Modelling Society. Held in the Galtrees Centre in Easingwold this is a lovely venue that is the go-to place for entertainment, fitness, and community activities for all Easingwoldians! Unlike the week’s previous show up in North Shields only 6 of us managed to make it to this show which was a massive difference to the 25 at last week’s show. Not to be daunted though the six of us set about filling the space. Luckily, we only had 12ft single depth of space as opposed to the 18ft double depth of last week.
Though the show is aimed more towards military and figure modelling, the club as always put on a widely varied display to highlight our wide-ranging skills. Mark, our resident figure and bust specialist filled his boots and I’m certain he brought his entire collection to put on the shelves. Our other Mark also went “full steam ahead” and filled the top shelves with his collection of 20, yes 20, Iron Man figures. Only the second time they’ve all been on display together apparently. The rest of us filled in where we could, and I even snuck in an aircraft or two! All was ready to go by 9:58 with two minutes to spare and looked spectacular as always. A congratulatory cup of tea was required which was quickly followed by a tour around the traders.
Not much on offer for us aircraft modellers but the quality of some of the busts and figures on offer was just amazing. I wish I could do them justice, but I behaved myself and kept my money in my wallet. This was followed by a gander at the club displays. I was particularly impressed by the models on display by the International Military Modelling Club. A truly impressive display. A quick check of the competition area prompted Chris to enter his Batwing into the competition. As the classes were mainly aimed at military modelling it was a struggle to choose an appropriate class. I have to say it’s the first time I’ve ever seen a Batwing classified as a “military vehicle”! It does have guns, so I guess it’s pretty close. Unfortunately the judges didn’t see it this way and Chris was unsuccessful in the competition. Hopefully in forthcoming shows they will expand the classes to include Sci-Fi and maybe even aircraft!
All told it was an excellent day at a fledging show. And even though Colin had a cheeky little nap in the afternoon it’s hoped that the show was successful enough to encourage the club to put on a show again next year.
